“Being quick is relative, though, and although the Hyundai Kona isn’t traditionally quick, it’s faster to 60 mph than some surprising vehicles.

Although the Kona comes with a starter engine, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a modest 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, its optional lively 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque is the focus here. That 1.6L turbo is capable of getting to 60 mph from a dead start in 6.6 seconds, which is faster than some surprising cars”

used acceleration data from Car and Driver track testing, which has gathered the fastest 0-60 mph times for all the vehicles on this list.”-

A FWD model with the bigger engine will cost about the same as a lightly optioned GTI.

A lightly optioned GTI will be bazillions of light years ahead of this in every category, including looks, driving enjoyment, and ability to pick up babes (or dudes).

Only a tenth faster than the Si, which is close enough. The Si sedan is one of the cars I’m considering in a few years.

I was actually surprised that with 205HP, 192 Lb/Ft and around 2911 Lb it’s not faster.

Yep, I reckon the article is kinda stretching to make a point. You can take it a bit farther with comparisons, given that all of the listed vehicles would get spanked in acceleration by an F150. According to C&D the new ones can do 0-60 in 5.9s.

my Dads got one with the 1.6T and dual clutch auto, it’s pretty alright. The bright blue is really nice.

He thought it might have been faster than my MR2 turbo on stock boost. He was wrong.

My guess would be gearing. In my TSX I have to shift into 3rd to get it to 60, which takes a tenth or two (maybe more depending on the driver). It wouldn’t surprise me a bit if the Civic is the same way.

Interesting, the Kona 1.6t with 175 hp and auto box is listed as doing 0-100 kmh (62 mph) in 7.9 seconds here in Europe, where no one cares about those stats in this homely category. I guess they used a few tricks to get it that much faster on paper in the US. Gearing and tires come to mind first, but there might be some other tricks going on as well.

Saw a Kona (non-turbo) in the wild, and I was impressed. Those are one of the best looking hatches around. Knowing there is a turbo option is interesting. That’s faster than my Outback XT (if speed is all you’re worried about).

It’s also slower than a fully loaded 2018 F150 Lariat Supercrew 4x2 with a 2.7L V6, which does 0-60 in about 6 seconds.

A F150 Supercab XLT with the 2.7L have been tested as quick as 5.8 second 0-60.

FALSE.

GTI base MSRP: $ 27,310
Kona Limited MSRP: $25,680

In fact, you can get the Limited AWD at $26,980, so still cheaper than a base GTI.

Carry on, just keeping things honest.
